Abstract

The study investigated the disaster management and restoration as correlates to durability of information resources in polytechnic libraries in the South-South geo-political zone of Nigeria. Two objectives were formulated for the study alongside two research questions and two null hypotheses respectively. The study adopted correlational research design. The study area was the State Polytechnic Libraries in South-South geo-political zone, Nigeria. The population consist of 223 staff working in the polytechnic libraries under study. Of the 223 staff, 194(87%) staff responded, which was used to analyse the data. Questionnaire was used as instrument for data collection. Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) was used to answer the research questions and test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Results revealed that disaster management and durability of information resources have a positive and moderately strong relationship while restoration and durability of information resources revealed positive and strong relationship. The researchers therefore recommend among others that there should be proactive disaster management plan in the library, provision of fire extinguishers, strengthening of existing weak structure of the library. Finally, the researchers recommend that librarians should be observant to know the state of their information resources in order to be able to restore them back to normalcy before getting out of hand.
